ZONE 1

ZONE 1 (2020)

WOOD, ROSIN PAPER, CLOTH, STRING, PUSHPINS, CHALK

APPROX. 18’ x 14’ x 3’

This immersive collage was inspired by the complex figural fields of Bosch, absurd configurations of Martha Rosler, and was named in homage to Andre Tarkovsky's classic film Stalker for the confounding, inscrutable "zone", where the natural laws of time and space do not apply.

I engage directly with the architecture of the gallery, using an existing "window to nowhere" and other unused or unseen structures. My work creeps around corners, up walls and onto ceilings, expressly moving beyond the panels the installation is otherwise centered upon. Divorced from their original context, the figures' relationships to each other, to gravity, scale and space, fiows from the internal dynamic of the installation.
